ABSTRACT
Reading comprehension continues to be a persistent concern among Filipino learners, particularly at the secondary level, where difficulties in understanding complex texts often hinder academic progress. This study investigated the effectiveness of explicit instructions on logical connectors as a strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension. Using a true-experimental design, the research involved both experimental and control groups that underwent pretests and posttests before and after intervention. Statistical analysis using measures of central tendency, variability, and significance testing was employed to determine the impact of instructional approach. Results revealed that explicit teaching of logical connectors significantly enhanced the reading comprehension performance of students in the experimental group compared to those in control group. Participants also demonstrated a shift from developing to advanced levels if reading proficiency. Moreover, students expressed that the lessons were engaging and purposeful, leading to increased motivation and confidence. Overall, the findings confirm that systematic and explicit instruction on logical connectors can effectively strengthen learners’ comprehension skills while fostering a more meaningful learning experience.
