Reading is a fundamental literacy skill that strongly influences learners’ academic success. However, many elementary pupils experience difficulties in comprehension and reading performance, which may be linked to their motivation and interest in reading. This study aimed to determine the level of reading interest among elementary learners and examine its relationship with their reading performance. Using a descriptive-correlational design, data were collected from 120 elementary pupils through a validated reading interest questionnaire and standardized reading assessment results. Findings revealed that learners demonstrated a moderate level of reading interest and satisfactory reading performance. Pearson correlation analysis showed a significant positive relationship between reading interest and reading performance (r = 0.62, p < 0.05). The results suggest that enhancing learners’ reading engagement may improve literacy outcomes. Schools are encouraged to strengthen reading programs that cultivate motivation, access to reading materials, and enjoyable reading experiences.
