Abstract The K to 12 curriculum is known to be a learner-centered one, which aims to equip learners with lifelong skills, along with the change in curriculum is the grading system, and one of the assessment form greatly emphasized is Performance-based which requires students to showcase real or actual performances.
This particular study aims to find out if the students feel comfortable in this manner of assessment.
Primarily this study is all about the “Grade 9 learners’ perception on the use of Performance Task in enhancing their skills in Literature”. The respondents of this study are all the Grade 9 learners of San Pablo National High School for School Year 2018-2019. Their responses were gathered through answering a researcher’s made survey questionnaire with the use of a rating scale indicating agreement or disagreement, it was then subjected to statistical treatment by getting its weighted mean.
It was found through this study that the students showed positive attitude towards the existence of Performance Task in their English class, they are motivated and showed agreement in their given responses. Consequently majority of the Grade 9 learner encountered difficulty with the use of Performance Task, problems like inaccessibility of technology in their area, and too much amount of time needed to complete the task. It was also noted based on the responses that in terms of assessment they do agree that rubrics are not clearly laid ahead of time.
There is a significant difference between the learners’ perception and the difficulties encountered in using Performance Task.
