Abstract
This descriptive-correlational study determined the extent of social problem solving ability among Sulu State College faculty during Academic Year 2024-2025, faculty demographic profiles in terms of gender, age, years of teaching experience and educational attainment; the extent of social problem solving ability in terms of basic social skills, advance social skills, interpersonal relationship, and social situations; and the significant correlation and differences in these sub-categories when data are classified according to respondents’ demographic profiles.
The frequency counts and percentage were used to determine the faculty-respondents’ profile, mean and standard deviation were used to determine the extent of social problem solving ability, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (Pearson r), t-Test for independent samples and One-Way ANOVA were used to determine the significant correlation and the differences in the sub-categories subsumed under social problem solving ability. Of the 100 faculty-respondents, majority are female, 30 years old & above of age bracket, majority have 10 years & below of teaching experience, and mostly with master’s degree and followed by those with bachelor’s degree holders.
On the average, Sulu State College faculty members have high ability in Basic Social Skills and Advanced Social Skills and with very high ability in Interpersonal Relationship and Social Situations. Unlike Years of Teaching Experience and Educational Attainment, variables Gender and Age have no significant intervention in ways how Sulu State College faculty members perceive towards the extent of social problem solving ability.
Sub-categories subsumed under social problem solving ability such as basic social skills, advanced social skills, interpersonal relationship and social situations are highly correlated. With high ability of social problem solving ability among faculty of Sulu State College, this particular study tends to support Siu & Shek (2005) Social Problem Solving Model which consists of the following factors: BS = Basic Social Skills; AS = Advanced Social Skills; IR = Interpersonal Relationship; and SS = Social Situations
