Classroom management remains one of the most important determinants of effective teaching and learning. It encompasses the strategies, techniques, and practices employed by teachers to establish an orderly, productive, and supportive learning environment. Effective classroom management not only minimizes disruptive behaviors but also maximizes instructional time, promotes student engagement, and enhances academic achievement.
The growing diversity of learners in contemporary classrooms presents significant challenges to teachers. Differences in students’ backgrounds, learning styles, behaviors, and socio-emotional needs require teachers to adopt varied classroom management approaches. Consequently, teachers must demonstrate competence in managing time, implementing appropriate teaching techniques, collaborating with parents, and providing planning and support mechanisms that facilitate meaningful learning experiences.
Several studies have emphasized the relationship between classroom management and student achievement. Effective classroom management contributes to improved student behavior, increased academic engagement, and enhanced learning outcomes. Conversely, ineffective management practices often result in classroom disruptions, reduced instructional effectiveness, and lower academic performance.
Despite the recognized importance of classroom management, limited local studies have examined the extent to which teachers consistently implement various classroom management strategies in private educational institutions. This gap highlights the need to assess current practices and identify areas for improvement.
Hence, this study assessed the classroom management practices of K to 10 teachers at Osmeña Colleges. Specifically, it examined classroom management practices in terms of time management, specific teaching techniques, working with parents, and planning and support. Furthermore, it determined the effect of classroom management on students’ academic performance and examined differences between elementary and junior high school teachers regarding classroom management practices.
