This IMRaD manuscript summarizes a quantitative study on the implementation and challenges of green sanitary practices in three selected hotels in Smithers, British Columbia: Prestige Hudson Bay Lodge, Sandman Inn, and Sunshine Inn. Guided by the Triple Bottom Line perspective, the study examined how water conservation, energy conservation, and solid waste management were implemented and how hotel personnel coped with challenges involving policies, management, resources, cost, and awareness. A descriptive-correlational design was used, with survey responses from 150 guests and 50 hotel personnel. Findings showed that green sanitary practices were generally implemented to a very high extent, particularly in sustainable water management and energy conservation. Solid waste management was also evident, although composting remained the weakest area, especially from the guests’ perspective. Hotel personnel reported a very high extent of coping with challenges, strongest in management, policies and regulations, and awareness, while resources and cost remained relatively weaker concerns. Tests of difference showed mostly non-significant results across demographic groups, except for department among hotel personnel and age in the combined assessment. Pearson correlation revealed a moderately high, positive, and significant relationship between implementation and coping with challenges. The study concludes that green sanitary practices are already embedded in hotel operations, but stronger composting systems, visible guest education, and resource-based support are needed to make sustainability more consistent, practical, and adaptable to similar hotel settings.
