Abstract
This descriptive correlational study was conducted to determine the significant relationship of the brain dominance and the mathematical skills of the first-year college students of PHINMA University of Iloilo, academic year 2018-2019. The respondents of the study were 359 first year college students who were chosen through stratified random sampling. To determine the brain dominance, the adapted brain dominance questionnaire was used and to find the mathematical skills of the respondents, the research made test was used.
The results revealed that the brain dominance of the respondents when taken as an entire group is bilateral. The brain dominance when classified according to college, family structure and parents’ highest educational attainment were bilateral. There is significant difference between the brain dominance when classified according to college, family structure and parents’ highest educational attainment. The mathematical skills of the respondents when taken as an entire group was poor. There is a significant difference in the mathematical skills of the respondents when classified according to college, family structure, and parents’ highest educational attainment. The study revealed that there is no significant relationship between brain dominance and mathematical skills.
