Abstract
Excessive gadget exposure among preschool children has become an increasing concern due to its possible effects on socialization, emotional regulation, and behavior.
This single case study explored the behavioral manifestations associated with prolonged tablet exposure in a four-year-old boy enrolled in a community day care center. Data were gathered through parental narration and caregiver observations. The child had no history of hospitalization, was fully immunized, verbally communicative, physically active, and demonstrated age-appropriate cognitive development. However, prolonged gadget exposure averaging six hours daily was associated with behavioral concerns, including irritability, emotional outbursts, reduced responsiveness during gadget use, and limited social interaction in school settings.
Despite balanced physical activities with peers and cousins, signs of gadget dependence became noticeable over time, especially during battery depletion or power interruptions. Parents initially interpreted the behavior as a normal developmental phase until repetitive incidents raised concern. Findings suggest that excessive gadget exposure may contribute to emerging behavioral and social difficulties among preschool children. Early parental awareness, regulated screen time, and increased interactive family engagement are recommended to support healthy psychosocial development.
