IMPLEMENTATION OF DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM IN PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN MORONG SUB-OFFICE, DIVISION OF RIZAL

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of implementation of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Program in the public elementary schools of Morong Sub-Office, Division of Rizal for School Year 2022-2023. Specifically, it profiled the demographic profile of the teacher and pupil respondents, assessed the implementation of the DRRM Program on disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster recovery and rehabilitation, and monitoring and evaluation, identified the respondents' perceptions on the significant differences, identified the challenges faced, and formulated an action plan to strengthen program implementation. Descriptive research design was used and researcher-made questionnaire-checklist was used for data collection to 259 teachers and 286 pupils through total population and simple random sampling techniques. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results showed that teachers perceived that the implementation of the DRRM Program is Very Much Implemented but pupils rated it as Much Implemented across all thematic areas. There were significant differences in the perceptions of the teachers and pupils on the implementation of the DRRM Program. For teachers educational attainment and length of service were important factors, while for pupils only the father's occupation had a significant effect. The primary concerns that were emphasized were the communities' and other parties' lack of support and the educators' inability to provide DRRM instruction.Given these discoveries, it was suggested that a comprehensive action strategy be taken to enhance the implementation of DRRM in public elementary schools. The research has demonstrated that it is essential to enhance the capabilities of teachers, ensure that there are sufficient resources, and promote collaboration among stakeholders in order to establish safer, more resilient educational environments and maintain effective school-based disaster risk reduction and management programs.
