Introduction
English instruction is an important component of elementary education because it supports the development of communication, comprehension, and literacy skills that learners use across subject areas and in everyday life. Through English instruction, pupils develop the ability to listen attentively, speak clearly, read and interpret different texts, understand vocabulary and grammatical structures, and communicate ideas through writing.
At the intermediate elementary level, these skills become increasingly important as pupils encounter more complex texts, informational materials, written explanations, and academic tasks. Grades 4–6 learners are expected to strengthen their reading comprehension, oral communication, vocabulary development, grammar, writing composition, and ability to interpret information from various sources. The development of these competencies requires purposeful teaching, appropriate learning materials, regular assessment, and opportunities for meaningful language use.
