Introduction
College students encounter academic, financial, social, emotional, and personal challenges that may influence their educational experiences. Their ability to manage these challenges can be shaped by family support, available resources, interpersonal relationships, and individual coping strategies. Understanding these factors is important in promoting student well-being and academic success.
Parental involvement may take the form of encouragement, communication, guidance, and support for educational goals. Although students in higher education are developing greater independence, parental encouragement may remain relevant to their motivation and academic engagement. Meanwhile, students may use different coping strategies, including problem-solving, planning, seeking support, positive reframing, and spiritual practices, to manage difficulties.
This study examined parental involvement, difficulties encountered, coping strategies, and academic achievement among second-year and third-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) students at a state university in Cagayan Valley during Academic Year 2023–2024. It also investigated whether parental involvement, reported difficulties, and coping strategies were significantly associated with students’ general weighted averages (GWAs).
