This quantitative study explored and examined the comparison of social media addiction among male and female learners, focusing on their commonly used platforms and the impact on academic performance and daily routines. Utilizing a Descriptive-Comparative Research Design, the study surveyed 174 Grade 4 to Grade 6 pupils from four private schools in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and the Independent Sample T-test to examine gender-based differences.
Findings show that TikTok is the most popular platform for both genders. The level of social media addiction was interpreted as “Sometimes,” indicating a moderate but noticeable effect on both studies and daily schedules. The comparative analysis revealed that while female learners showed a slightly higher frequency of use, both groups experienced comparable moderate distractions and habit changes. The study concludes that social media moderately impacts learners’ focus and time management. It is recommended that teachers, parents, and administrators implement programs to develop digital discipline, self-regulation, and responsible social media use among students.
