Mathematical competence is essential for learners’ success academically and for the application of quantitative knowledge in daily life. However, if students in senior high school lack basic numeracy, they may not be able to solve mathematical problems confidently and accurately. This study explored the use of Numeracy Intervention Materials and Interactive Assessment e-Tools (NIMIA), an intervention that combines teacher-made numeracy worksheets and educational e-games to enhance the mathematical competencies of Grade 11 learners in Tala Senior High School. The study aimed to describe the performance of learners before and after the intervention, to determine whether the pre-test and post-test scores were significantly different, and to identify the improvements that could strengthen the intervention.
The research used a quantitative one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental action research design. The intervention materials were aligned to selected competencies in General Mathematics in the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum. Worksheets included sequenced written exercises, guided practice and application tasks. The e-games included interactive practice, different levels of difficulty, automatic scoring and immediate performance information. The activities were done by learners individually. The teacher-researcher checked the outputs of the worksheets and game scores to identify difficulties and provide additional guidance. An achievement test prepared by the teacher was given before and after implementation. Also, the instructional resources were evaluated for learners’ acceptance by a researcher-developed questionnaire including perceived usefulness, ease of use, engagement and enjoyment, and motivation. Performance was summarized using descriptive statistics and assessment scores were compared using a paired-samples t-test.
