Introduction
Property and supply management in a school is very important and should be looked at seriously from the management standpoint, because it involves the buildings, pieces of equipment, instructional materials, furniture, and other supplies provided in the delivery of quality basic education. These resources should be in safe custody, correctly issued, recorded punctually, inventoried periodically, and disposed of as per the legal guidelines when they become unserviceable. Weaknesses anywhere in the entire process may lead to loss and damage, misutilization, incomplete records, and unavailability of items in teaching and learning. Thus, the property custodians stand as the most crucial personnel in the general responsibility for ensuring proper accountability, especially in seeing public resources are effectively utilized as intended.
This study of School Year 2013–2014 sought to describe the property and supply management practices of school property custodians in the Division of Pasig City. This study was primarily focused on five areas: safekeeping, protection and preservation of property; issuance and utilization; recording and documentation; inventory-taking; and disposal of unserviceable property. The study further described the professional characteristics of property custodians in relation to sex, civil status, educational attainment, years of experience in the position of custodian, and attendance at relevant trainings and seminars. Additionally, it tried to find out whether or not the assessments from school heads, selected teachers, and the summation of property custodians differed and if there was any association between the custodians' personal professional characteristics and their different assessments of practices.
The work randomized had practical meaning as well as evaluative concern. The aim of the study was to highlight areas where operations were going right and where improvement was needed in order to enhance the efficiency of property management in public educational institutions. The study defined property management as a responsibility that is shared by different people. Different people in the institution share the responsibility in an appropriate manner.
