ABSTRACT
This study focused on determining the outcomes of mnemonics and rhymes as strategies to enhance the performance level of Grade 7 students in Physics at Guevara National High School during the School Year 2025–2026. The study measured the students’ performance through pre-tests and post-tests, as well as gather their perceptions of the effectiveness of mnemonics and rhymes in improving comprehension and retention. The respondents were Grade 7 students enrolled in Guevara National High School, in Lapaz, Tarlac. Students were assigned to either the control group or the experimental group. The intervention used in the experimental group were validated mnemonics and rhymes, integrated into regular classroom instruction over a specified period. The control group received traditional instruction. Findings revealed that the pre-test performance in Physics of Grade 7 students in both groups revealed concerning baseline physics proficiency. In the post test, both groups improved in performance but a notable achievement in the experimental group was observed following the intervention. The results indicate a statistically significant difference in gain scores between the experimental and control groups. Participants in the experimental group improved, on average, by 7.83 points more than those in the control group. The p-value is < .001, which led to the rejection of the null hypothesis, signifying significant difference between the control and experimental group. The study concludes that the integration of mnemonics and rhymes in teaching physics was effective in improving the performance and engagement of students. The study recommends further studies to explore longitudinal research to determine long-term sustainability of these gains, comparative analyses with other cognitive tools, and development of technology-augmented mnemocs and rhymes, such as mobile applications. Finally, the study advocates the assessment of impact of mnemonics and rhymes on the student attitudes and expanding their application to other science and mathematics disciplines.
