ABSTRACT
This study examined the causes and effects of teacher burnout and its impact on pupils’ academic performance among elementary teachers at Parang Central Elementary School, Maguindanao del Norte. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected from forty-three (43) respondents through a survey questionnaire. Results revealed that the majority of teachers were female, aged 28–44 years old and had served one to ten years in the profession. Findings showed that heavy workload, large class sizes, inadequate resources, and behavioral challenges among pupils were the primary contributors to teacher burnout. Burnout was found to negatively affect pupils’ academic performance, leading to difficulties in classroom management, lesson preparation, and pupil engagement. The study concludes that while teacher burnout does not completely prevent learning, it significantly reduces instructional quality and pupil outcomes. It emphasizes the importance of addressing workload, providing adequate support, and promoting teacher well-being to sustain effective teaching and learning. Strengthening institutional support systems and implementing resilience-building strategies are recommended to mitigate burnout and enhance both teacher performance and pupil achievement.
