ABSTRACT
The study aimed to address and identify the factors that affect the low reading profile of Grade 2 – Moonstone of Puro Elementary School, Puro, Placer, Masbate. Using a descriptive research design, the researcher collected data from thirteen (13) Grade 2 pupils through a research-made survey questionnaire. The learners’ demographic profile revealed that 61.54% were 7 years old, 30.77% were 8 years old, and 7.69% were 9 years old. Findings revealed that lack of follow-up practice from home is the reason why the respondents display poor reading proficiency. It further added that lack of support and motivation from parents could also affect the reading performance of the learners. Recommendations contained that there is a need to create a reading remediation program, conducting intensive vocabulary drills, and building strong cooperation with the parents in order to create strong motivation support from them.
