ABSTRACT
This study underscores the importance of communicative competence and centers on the desire to come up with the profile of the communicative competencies of English majors and concentrators of Cataingan Municipal College.
To obtain the data needed in this study, the researcher used a questionnaire and availed of the oral test and observation techniques to support its findings.
The questionnaire served as the principal tool used in gathering the data that answer the basic questions of this study to test and find out the level of oral competence of the respondents. It consists of pronunciation of words with stress and intonation, identifying the sound for vowel and consonant words and answering orally the set of questions. Each part is composed of twenty items and a survey questionnaire.
The researchers established the validity of the questionnaire by trying it to 25 English majors and 25 English concentrators of the Cataingan Municipal College using the analytical method.
A letter of request for permission to conduct the study was sent to the head of the English Department of Cataingan Municipal College.
The study was conducted during the school year 2025-2026 utilizing the descriptive method of study.
The researcher constructed a scoring matrix and categorized into five levels of performance, outstanding, good, fair, needs improvement and poor.
The data gathered were tallied, tabulated and treated statistically using the weighted arithmetic mean, arithmetic mean and percentage, and ranking.
The overall level of oral competence of English majors and concentrators are both above average for the school year 2025-2026. This was proven by the computed results of the oral tests in four areas namely intonation, stress, consonants and vowels.
