Introduction
A crucial English language ability is paraphrasing, which allows pupils to convey concepts from a source in their own words while maintaining the original meaning. It necessitates that students comprehend a text, recognize its key concepts, then recreate those concepts using the proper vocabulary, sentence structures, and grammatical forms. Because paraphrase enhances reading comprehension, written communication, vocabulary growth, and the responsible use of knowledge from diverse sources, it is especially crucial for eighth-grade children to acquire this skill. However, students may find it challenging to paraphrase because they have a small vocabulary, find it difficult to rearrange ideas without altering their intended meaning, or just duplicate words or sentence structures from the original text. These difficulties underscore the necessity of intentional, learner-centered instructional strategies that give students organized chances to comprehend, practice, and enhance paraphrase.
The current study, "Developing Grade 8 Students’ English Paraphrasing Skills through the Specified Teaching Approach," was conducted to address students' challenges in creating effective paraphrases in response to this need. The study concentrated on the application of a particular teaching strategy as an instructional intervention intended to offer methodical direction and significant practice in converting source concepts into unique expressions. Students had the chance to improve their ability to recognize important concepts, choose appropriate words and phrases, reorganize sentences, and maintain the original text's meaning by using the approach. As a result, the study aimed to ascertain how much the intervention could help students in Grade 8 improve their English paraphrasing abilities and offer an evidence-based foundation for enhancing English instruction in the classroom.
