Abstract
This study aimed to explore students' reliance and experiences using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning English, specifically in writing tasks. The descriptive research design was used in this study. According to Calderon (2006), descriptive research is the purposive process of collecting, analyzing, classifying, and interpreting data about prevailing conditions, practices, processes, trends, and relationships with minimal reliance on statistical methods.
The results in this study showed that students relied on AI for several reasons: to improve vocabulary, organize ideas, check grammar, to boost their confidence in their writing tasks and for faster and easier to accomplish. Thus, AI is often used as a supportive tool for students' academic writing tasks.
The study concluded that students relied on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for their English writing tasks because of time pressure, academic workload, limited vocabulary, difficulties in organizing ideas, grammar issues, and challenges in understanding the tasks. However, students see the need to use AI in a controlled and balanced way.
