Introduction
Teachers are core to the provision of effective basic education and their professional background and demographic factors affect their experiences, responsibilities and engagement within the school environment. While teachers are required to execute instructional duties, they may also be assigned to do roles in documentation, communication, reporting, coordination, and other school-related activities that need skills beyond their formal specialization. Therefore, it is essential to know the demographic profile of teachers who are not language majors to set the context in which they perform these varied roles. Data on their age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, teaching position, years of service and other relevant factors may create a more vivid picture of the population and serve as a basis for recognizing their professional situations.
In this light, this study was conducted to describe the demographic and professional characteristics of chosen non-language teachers in the Schools Division of Isabela. The study presents a comprehensive profile of the respondents that can be used as baseline information in understanding their experiences, in identifying appropriate professional development requirements, and in devising relevant responsive interventions to their teaching and school-related tasks. The identification of the demographic profile of these teachers can also provide useful information for school administrators and education officials to build programs and support mechanisms that are relevant to the characteristics and professional contexts of non-language instructors.
