Abstract
This study explores the characteristics, organization, and role of E-Wika in Chat and Chika: A Structural Analysis of the Role of Social Media Among Gen Alpha. It focuses on how Generation Alpha communicates online and how social media influences the way they use language. Today’s youth are highly exposed to digital platforms, which has led to the emergence of new words, expressions, and communication styles that are commonly used in everyday online interactions. The study also examines the different social media platforms that serve as sources of these modern forms of language and expression.
To gather information, the researchers used a descriptive research design, particularly content analysis. Chats, posts, and comments from Facebook, Messenger, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube were analyzed to better understand how e-language is used in digital communication. The study found that social media plays a major role in the spread and development of e-language. Common practices such as shortening words, using acronyms like RN and ICYMI, code-switching, and adding emojis were frequently observed in online conversations. These styles of communication help users express themselves more quickly, and creatively.
The findings also showed that e-language is more than just informal or modern slang. It follows certain patterns and has become a systematic way of communicating among young people. It reflects the creativity, identity, and adaptability of Generation Alpha in the digital world. Overall, the study highlights how the Filipino language continues to evolve through technology and social media. It also recommends teaching students the proper use of language depending on context while recognizing and understanding the value of modern digital communication.
