ABSTRACT
Mambugan National High School students struggle with learning essential mathematics, which affects how they can learn further mathematics lessons when they get to Grade 10 mathematics. From the test on numeracy skills conducted among students from different grades, most students were found to be non-numerates despite being at a crucial point in their education, which is before proceeding to senior high school. For this reason, a numeracy drill booklet was created as an intervention material to help students gain basic numeracy knowledge.
The research sought to assess the Numeracy Drill Booklet regarding content, format, presentation, suitability, and usefulness among Grade 10 students. The ADDIE Model was used in the process of designing and assessing the Numeracy Drill Booklet in conjunction with the GRR framework as a way of providing scaffolded learning. Teachers of mathematics and experts evaluated the Numeracy Drill Booklet through a validated questionnaire using a Likert scale.
The data were subjected to analysis through the use of the weighted mean in measuring the satisfaction level, while comparing the evaluations done by the two samples was determined using the independent t-test. Effect size was determined using Cohen’s d. Ethical considerations were taken into account when gathering data. Findings show that the two samples give positive ratings, as their weighted means fall within the range of 4.3 and 4.8 in all the categories. Effect size was shown to be a small one based on the findings. The independent t-test shows no significant differences (p > 0.05) between the evaluations done by the teachers and experts. The results indicate the reliability and practicality of the booklet in improving the students’ basic numeracy skills. On the basis of the findings, the following course of action has been recommended.
